navindra Thanks, that is my new oversized, expensive midi controller π.
The tablet is a Surfacebook2 (in tablet mode). It runs Reaper, Pianoteq and MobileSheets. It is slow comparing the modern laptops. But it sits on the music rest nicely and it has better screen size and aspect ratio than iPads.
I feel I am not qualified to state strong opinions about the piano. I have tried a few Yamaha CLPs and a used Roland LX model with PHA50 in a local store. I've enjoyed them all. Yamahas were too expensive. And that used Roland did only come with a few months of guarantee. So I've blindly bought the LX6. And so far I am really happy about it. I will throw some observations:
- The action feels nice, but the jump from PHA4 to PHA50 was bigger. I would be equally happy with PHA50.
- It is bigger, heavier and louder than I've expected. I can't run it full volume at all because of neighbours. I use it at about 30% on occasion if the time permits.
- The bottom panel is covered with fabric. I realised this way too late. I am a bit worried that our cats are going to turn it into another scratchpad. But so far they are not interested π.
- It has usb audio. But it is not as useful as I thought would be. It does not offer low latency like a good audio interface. It is acceptable (to me) with a generic ASIO driver. Biggest hurdle is usability. The piano does not remember "Local Control - Off" setting. So it requires going into the menu, click 6-7 times to turn it off every time turn the piano on. So I don't use it. The internal sound is fine to me, more than enough for occasional practice without the headphones.
- The sustain pedal is really heavy. Heavier than Yamaha U3. Maybe grand pianos have heavier sustain pedal, I am not sure. I can rest my foot on it comfortably. The other two pedals are lighter. The used Roland in the store was also same. So it looks like "by design".
- There is a cavity between bottom and upper half. So I've hidden a powered usb hub in it π. One usb-c cable connected to Surfacebook2 for midi from the piano, external audio interface and charging.
I love it but I did not need it. My FP-10 was fine. LX6 feels a little bit nicer and looks nicer as well. The setup is also quicker now. I open the lid (which turns the piano on) then wake the tablet up and it is ready play.
