Lately Iβve flitted from Einaudi, Γlafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Max Richter and Stephan Moccio.
My source for their music is MusicNotes.com.
I have several Moccio pieces I have at various stages of comprehension. I recommend them all.
- Il etait une fois
- Le Temps Qui Passe
- The Wanderer
- Le Jardin de Monsieur Monet
- Whitby
- Lionheart
All the above have simple melodies recapitulated in various ways and evocative chord progressions. What stands out is that his accompaniment, apart from bass, for the most part is NOT simple arpeggios.
When I first began looking at these pieces, I thought he was making the accompaniment needlessly complex (in fact, in listening to recordings for some you can barely hear the accompaniment/counterpoint) even pointlessly random upon repetition. As I persevered, I realized the combinations and variations featured brief counterpoint motifs or simple passing notes that added to the musical tension and release.
As a performer, I like music that keeps me on my toes and have cool facets that I want to bring out to share with my listeners.
